We believe in a thoughtful approach to our work that takes seriously the suffering and hardship of Congo, but also the stories of hope and transformation that are found in the midst of the hardship.
Everything we do is Congolese-led. This means that we never “import” answers to Congo’s challenges from the outside. Instead, the solutions to Congo’s challenges come from within–from local communities and leaders who know the longings of their people and who lead us in finding the resources to fulfill those longings.
Although we are Congolese-led, we collaborate with friends and colleagues from the international community in transforming lives and rebuilding Congo. A favorite expression of ours is the Swahili phrase “tuko pamoja” — “we are together.”
We believe that any adequate response to Congo’s needs and opportunities must be holistic. This is not a place of easy answers or single-issue campaigns.
We are deeply committed to long-term transformation for Congo in all areas of life–social, economic, political, and spiritual. Our work is a response to the humanitarian disasters of poverty, corruption, despair, and hopelessness.
The redemptive life and saving work of Jesus Christ is the bedrock of everything we do. We approach our work with a Christ-centered vision of reconciliation. We believe God is in the business of restoring all that is broken and twisted in this world. Our work is rooted in the Christian values of love, justice, integrity, generosity, and service.
