Our August Partner Spotlight is Caroline Kolins. Caroline has served as a CI-USA board member since 2020. She works in higher education in the United States and feels a particular affinity for UCBC as she strongly believes in the transformative power of education. “[It is] my belief that education is the most reliable way out of poverty. UCBC provides access to meaningful careers, lives of service, and a network of like minded friends and colleagues for students, faculty, and staff.”
She notes that one of the things that makes UCBC unique is its emphasis on servant leadership. “I am inspired every time I talk to Dr. Honoré Bunduki, the Rector of UCBC (University President equivalent). In a culture that places utmost importance on hierarchy, Dr. Honoré is leading by humble example. He calls students by name, he participates in service activities, and he is passionate about bringing change to Congo by elevating young people to be the principled leaders of Congo’s future. He does not shy away from difficult conversations, but he leans in and relies on God to show him the way.”
Through his example, “UCBC is raising up a generation of African leaders that is learning and applying the powerful principles of servant leadership. The curriculum and the culture at UCBC is different from other Congolese universities. The community of UCBC students, faculty, and staff is motivated by serving others and providing avenues for positive change for Congolese society.”
Caroline notes, “I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to serve Congo Initiative. It has enriched my life deeply and constantly reminds me that serving others is the path to a meaningful and fulfilling life. The joy I experience by watching students and alumni change Congo for the better is indescribable.”
We are immensely grateful for Caroline’s heart for the people of Congo and her willingness to serve on our board.
