The student-led group, Women’s Voices, has been a staple at UCBC for the past nine years. The group was created to champion women in leadership, promote gender equality, and celebrate personal achievements both on and off campus. Women’s Voices also collaborates with Bethesda Counseling Center to host positive masculinity workshops, encouraging dialogue with men to challenge gender stereotypes, broaden perspectives, and fight gender-based biases.
Women’s Voices has kicked off the new year with two gatherings. On January 17th, the group hosted a thanksgiving service for members to reflect on and celebrate the many blessings in their lives in 2023. Each person had the opportunity to share personal and professional milestones. Some of these milestones included receiving degrees, finding jobs, marriages, or beginning new projects. Women’s Voices gathered again on January 23rd with a welcome ceremony for new community members.
In a place where women are often held back and not encouraged to pursue their dreams, Women’s Voices and UCBC offer women a different story. These gatherings are the embodiment of the goals of Women’s Voices: empowering women in their chosen fields, offering a supportive and encouraging community, and providing space for women’s voices to be heard.
