It has been an honor to join an inspiring movement that bridges continents, communities, and generations. As I embark on this journey, I want to share a bit about what brought me to Congo Initiative (CI): 

They say experience is life’s greatest teacher, and my passion for mission-driven work is deeply rooted in just that.

My parents left their country of Belize to venture into the unknown; only able to carry with them the hopes and dreams they had for my future. Eventually, they landed in New York City, where they raised us (my sisters and me) in East Harlem. As I grew up, I faced countless challenges navigating a city that boasts diversity but also lacks inclusion—a true tale of two cities. Yet, despite the statistics and barriers, I became the first person in my family to successfully move my tassel from right to left, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Public/International Affairs from Baruch College. As a result of my studies and humble beginnings, I gained a profound understanding of how systemic inequities can shape people’s lives and limit opportunities. That understanding fueled my desire to create change in this world. 

It was this resilience that gave me the courage to step into my purpose, and realize my calling – strengthening mission-based organizations from the inside out, ensuring they have the tools to empower the communities they serve. While the focus of CI’s work may be a half a world away – this work is personal for me —it’s about giving back and creating pathways for people to thrive. 

To create these pathways, I’ve been a strong advocate to move beyond the archaic charity-based model to one that prioritizes local agency and leadership. This is what drew me to CI and resonates deeply with my belief that true transformative change lies within communities defining and creating their own futures. 

Looking ahead, I’m excited to contribute to the vital mission of Congo Initiative while also  connecting our work with Black communities across the diaspora. While continents may separate us as part of the collective, what connects us is the struggle to undo the oppression and barriers that inhibits our success. Together, we can strengthen these bonds and amplify our collective impact. Our shared commitment to equity, education, and empowerment will shape a brighter future for the next generation—one that we will all be proud of.
