“I was very glad to graduate because it was something I couldn’t imagine reaching at the beginning!”

Last year, Lygisha Malonga Mbambu became the first woman in her family to graduate from a university. As the graduation festivities happened all around her, she remembered the difficulty of beginning at UCBC after spending four years out of school setting.

“The first year was difficult for me. I was not at the same level as my peers and struggled to get back into the student mindset,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine reaching this day at the beginning. I am a graduate and it is so exciting!”

When asked what she likes most about UCBC, Lygisha responded, “ It is a Christian University that doesn’t struggle with corruption. At UCBC, you pass the course because you worked hard and you deserved the grade. At some universities, paying for grades with money or sex is not uncommon. Here though, grades are based on knowledge and work.”

Her greatest desire is to practice what she learned as a communications student at UCBC and to contribute to society in a way that brings about transformation.
