The Next 500 Future Leaders of Congo

The Next 500 Future Leaders of Congo

October 30, 2018 by Justin Hubbard

For over a decade, Congo Initiative’s global community has witnessed the impact of UCBC on lives of students, staff, and alumni. Now close to 600 UCBC alumni work and serve across Congo and beyond, creating change in their communities and embodying Christian hope and transformation. In a context that remains challenging and complex, dedicated alumni are applying the knowledge, skills, dedication, and creativity received at UCBC towards a new liberating and transformative narrative. In short, a new story is being written in Congo.

Even as we celebrate the impact made through UCBC and its alumni over the past 10 years, Congo continues to confront serious challenges. The Congolese people continue face cycles of violence, poverty, and exploitation. Just in the past year, close to 4 million people have been internally displaced and hundreds have been killed. Corruption remains prevalent while the infrastructure remains out-dated or non-existent. The political situation and continued delays in elections have increased instability throughout the country.

Yet, we believe that UCBC’s transformational community will continue to produce leaders prepared to respond to those challenges through sacrificial service, ethical practice, vocational excellence, and creativity for the renewal and flourishing of Congo. We believe we can continue to write a new story. That is why we are excited to announce a bold, new initiative that invests in the next 500 future leaders of Congo.

Learn more about how you can help write a new story in Congo and invest in the next 500 transformational leaders who will be taught and mentored at UCBC – young adults equipped to identify, own, and shape a new narrative for 21st century Congo.
