Societies function well when the rule of law is upheld. When each and every life is regarded with equal value and dignity, communities thrive. When the human rights of every girl, boy, woman, and man are respected, the common good is protected and families flourish.
Sadly, this has NOT been Congo’s experience. Rather, it is a story of injustice . . .a story of extraction. A country so richly endowed has been ravished by greed and corrupt leaders. A people so full of promise and dignity have been exploited, raped, and murdered.
In short, justice has been pushed down and out of sight from the Congolese people.
At Congo Initiative, we elevate peace and justice through grassroots activities that are making an impact on Congolese society.
Our theme verse is from the prophet Isaiah, who writes, “See, I am doing a new thing! Do you not perceive it? Now it springs forth. I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wilderness.” (Is. 43:19)
Like new growth emerging in a desert, justice is breaking forth in the wasteland of Congo’s ruined past, announcing something new and hopeful for this amazing land and people.
