Natural Resource Governance is a program of The Integrated Research Institute at UCBC. The Integrated Research Institute (IRI) encourages and empowers faculty, students, and affiliated researchers to conduct and publish research pertinent to the transformation of communities in DR Congo. Some of the IRI’s activities directly benefit UCBC as an institution. Other activities assist UCBC with accomplishing its goal of engaging social issues through intervention-based research and public policy in DRC.
Natural Resource Governance
While supporting UCBC’s research and training capacity, IRI focuses on improving land rights and resource governance. Natural Resource Governance has been instrumental in reshaping the conversation around land reform and creating a more peaceful Congo. One of the focuses of the NRG is to create a more equitable land management system by implementing a community-based approach that brings all stakeholders to the table. NRG has grown to significantly influence the National Land Policy of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
