Bethany started her accounting career at Deloitte Tax in Northern California but after a few years of grueling tax seasons realized that her passion for serving people experiencing poverty did not align with her day job. In an effort to match a love for finance with humanitarian focused work, she uprooted to northeastern Congo to take on a field financial management role at an NGO serving displaced people with water, food and hygiene needs. Here began a new love of Congolese culture – the food, music, dancing and most of all the resilient and generous spirit of Congolese people. In 2018 she joined a solar start-up company that came out of CI’s Wakisha program to use renewable energy to address the electrification needs in eastern Congo as a means to reduce poverty and violence in remote areas. Congo was home for almost a decade before relocating back to her hometown of Pine Grove, CA in 2023 with her husband and two kids. Bethany is excited to serve as Board Treasurer for CI-USA and continue to support the efforts in Eastern Congo to transform lives through education and raise up a new generation of Congolese leaders.
