Kasereka Katimika Vavasi was born in Katwa, North Kivu, DRC. He currently considers his hometown Butembo, North Kivu.
Katimika completed his primay studies at Vutetse in Butembo and focused on mathematics and physics in his secondary school at Katwa Institute in Butembo. He attended university in Bukavu/South Kivu for Physics and Technology. From there, he continued his studies in Physics and Technology and then graduate studies in Physics in 1985.
He is now serving at UCBC as Academic Dean for Research in charge of research, documentation and scholarship. He is married to Masika Kipuni.
