Kambale Kisumba Kamungele is a development advocate and entrepreneur committed to the economic and social transformation of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He currently serves as Executive Director of Café Africa DRC, a nonprofit organization working to revitalize the Congolese coffee sector through sustainable value chain development, smallholder empowerment, and institutional collaboration.
With more than two decades of experience in the production, processing, and trade of perennial crops, Mr. Kamungele has worked at the intersection of private enterprise, public policy, and nonprofit leadership. His efforts have focused on fostering inclusive growth and responsible trade in the coffee and cocoa industries. He played a founding role in the creation of the DRC National Coffee Exporters’ Association (ASSECCAF) and has been instrumental in expanding economic opportunities for rural producers—particularly in western DRC, where he led initiatives to rehabilitate Robusta coffee production. His advocacy continues on international platforms, where he champions the origin and value of Congolese cash crops and promotes cross-sector collaboration.
As Acting Board Chair of Congo Initiative UCBC, Mr. Kamungele brings a unique perspective rooted in grassroots engagement, institutional development, and global partnerships. A firm believer in the power of education, leadership formation, and ethical enterprise, he also serves as the DRC Chapter Chair of the African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA), actively supporting community-led transformation through strategic collaboration.
He holds a B.Sc. from Purdue University (USA), an M.Sc. from Université Laval (Canada), and a Master in Coffee Economics and Science from the University of Trieste (Italy). His commitment aligns deeply with Congo Initiative’s mission to develop transformational leaders who pursue holistic, Christ-centered change in their communities and nation.
He and his wife, Julie Kavira, reside in Kinshasa and are proud parents of one daughter, Suzanne Kanyere.
