Our family sends our Christmas and New Year’s greetings to you as a friend, but more importantly, as a team member. Throughout our years of leadership, we have learned an important lesson – we can’t do it alone! We rely on the strength of a team.
Fifteen years ago, when we were living in the United States, we envisioned a transformational community in war-torn Beni. But first, we spent 3 years in the US to form a team of like-minded, passionate friends to join us in the realization of this vision. That is how CI-USA was born.
Unfortunately, Beni and its people continue to suffer from violence as well as the world’s second-largest Ebola outbreak. Over 2200 people have died from Ebola and over 150 have been killed in recent attacks by rebel groups. The people continue to lament and grieve, crying out for lasting peace and asking, “How long, Lord, how long?” We know that you stand in solidarity with us and join in our cries and prayers. For that, we say asante sana (“thank you very much”).
Yet, amidst it all, a new story is being written. God continues to make a way through the wilderness as dedicated and faithful leaders are formed in and through our CI community. We witness a thriving community of students, parents, entrepreneurs, teachers, lawyers, church leaders, counselors, and local government leaders, all working together for change. CI’s projects and programs are making a difference in these times of acute need.
We see the power of team not only in Congo, but every time we meet with our friends who have joined us around the globe. Your contributions through prayer and financial investment are vital to another year of offering hope and forming transformative leaders in Congo. As we look ahead to 2020, we are counting on your support! Please join us by making a sustaining gift to CI. We are so thankful for you, your heart and passion for the people of Congo, and for being a valued member of our CI team.
With hope and gratitude,
David and Kaswera Kasali
