CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF CONGO INITIATIVE
Next month marks a remarkable milestone—20 years of Congo Initiative! Since September 2005, Congo Initiative has been a catalyst for transformation, equipping Congolese changemakers to serve their communities with courage, wisdom, and vision.
From launching the Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo (UCBC) to supporting grassroots initiatives in justice, entrepreneurship, education, and community development, Congo Initiative has grown into a vibrant movement of hope and renewal. What began as a dream has become a reality, touching thousands of lives across the Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond.
As we look back, we give thanks for the countless partners, friends, and supporters who have walked this journey with us. And as we look ahead, we are energized to continue investing in the next generation of leaders who will shape a more just and flourishing Congo.
Together, let’s celebrate two decades of impact and look forward to the future we are building side by side.
WE ARE NOT WITHOUT HOPE
This year has been marked by deep grief and sobering reminders of the fragility of peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In our region in eastern Congo, the ADF armed group has carried out a wave of violent attacks, taking innocent lives, displacing families, and shattering communities. According to recent estimates, over 450 civilians have been killed by the ADF since the beginning of the year. Children, ranging from ages 7 to 14 have also been abducted. We mourn with those who have lost loved ones, and we carry the pain of the people in our hearts and prayers while recognizing more needs to be done.

UPDATES
GIRL CHILD AND HER LONG WALK TO FREEDOM FELLOWSHIP
We’re thrilled to announce that Marc Asobee, coordinator of UCBC’s School of Leadership and the Nyota Leadership Program director, has been selected for the prestigious Girl Child and Her Long Walk to Freedom fellowship!
Marc shared: “For me, my selection is a recognition of our shared struggle for women’s empowerment and gender equity in a culture rooted in patriarchal mindset. But through programs such as NYOTA Leadership Program, Women’s Voices and others, CI-UCBC is partnering with local women to change the narrative and create a world where every life matters and human potentials are unleashed to build just and thriving communities. In this, we are together.”
Join us in celebrating Marc’s dedication, advocacy, and vision for a more just and equitable world!

OPEN HEART PRAYER
Earlier this month, UCBC held Open Heart Prayer, a special time of reflection and spiritual connection for the university community. Organized by the Student Committee, this gathering is part of a broader effort to nurture spiritual formation at UCBC while fostering deeper relationships among students, faculty, and administration.
The event provided a meaningful opportunity for participants to come together in prayer—seeking unity and strength to face the academic and personal challenges of university life.
Organizers shared their hope for Open Heart Prayer to become an annual tradition, reinforcing a spirit of solidarity and mutual support across the campus. Students were encouraged to remain steadfast in their faith, trusting God to guide them through life’s daily trials.
MEET A UCBC STUDENT
“‘You don’t pull on a flower to make it grow. You water it and watch it grow… patiently,’ says an African proverb.
With these words, I express my thanks first to God, and then to UCBC for being the watering can that contributed to my scientific growth. I am now at the doorstep of professional life, ready to meet the technological challenges of our country thanks to the knowledge, but above all to the ethical and professional values I learned at UCBC.
